Shield High 0.686 release!

Okay so, here it is! The new Shield High release! What's in it? I'm not 100% sure. What I remember for sure is that it has the two new story lines one for Stacy and one for Carmen. The polish on them is a bit...eh, in places. I was in a rush to get this one out. I'll try and polish them up for the next release, I promise. Or the one after, since that's meant to be spring cleaning.

Anyway, here's the download link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/w44p35jw28prika/Shield_High_JS_0.686.7z

So, to elaborate a bit more on what's changed, there's now a way to check your personal status within Shield High. It's like the three parts at the bottom of every NPC's relationships thing, but with one new stat. As well as power there's PERCEIVED POWER. Basically, power changes when something tangible happens. You obtain a new slave, you win a fight, that sort of thing. It shows how much stuff you can ACTUALLY do, how likely you are to win fights, and things like that. Your perceived power however is what everyone THINKS you can do. It fluctuates a lot more, climbing from resisting girls pressuring you to submit, or winning fights, or even just starting them, even with no follow through. Likewise it drops when you submit, or lose, or anything else like that.

This matters because the static story events, such as Stacy and Carmen will only trigger when your Perceived Power reaches a certain level. Currently that's 20 and 30 for Stacy and Carmen respectively, however it will be changed to 40 for Carmen when the game is a bit bigger. To make things easier on you until saving is properly fixed and overhauled and things, you can simply submit to Karen, which instead of dropping you by 2 points, ups you by 20, putting you in range to get one story, then the other quite quickly.

That's the main change. The majority of the work was combing every single event for changes in global opinion. There's also the new image added now, so you can see the new, nicer Jess looking at you in the map screen and the journal. It's just the one this month, but I intend to add the rest of the options, and a way to view yourself mid-combat, in the next update.

That's it for now.

Pudding Earl.

P.S. Sixth, and final book for the moment can be found here. It's an equally valid starting point in contrast to the first, if you've been considering getting the books but just haven't for whatever reason: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071RWT1JF

  2. Sounds like a interesting mechanic, adds some fun potential to the story telling.

Bugs report: Think it's the other way around. Carmen triggers at 20, and gives you 25 (total) after her event. So can't trigger Stacy. Tried some different choices with Carmen, and it's always 25 points max as far as I can tell.
If a second meeting with Karen was meant to give you the points.. I don't get one.

    1. Curious. I think I know what the problem might be. I'll do some looking at my code and see if I can have it fixed for next month. Or I might put out a patch version to add Stacy. I'll look at the code I've changed so far and see if anything else new is actually in the game.

  3. It also seems that submitting to Karen prevents you from getting exp from any fights. I also encountered a little bug that can happen if you talk to Angel and trigger Josie approaching you. If you decide to dominate her unsuccessfully your locked in with dialogue actions for Angel without any means to escape. Encountered things like that rather often. (without being completely trapped though)
Previous conversations or whole scenes get repeated if you for example talk to Karen after enslaving her etc. Seems more stable in the grand scheme of things though, really love the new Jessica Artwork it looks amazing! Getting the other Npcs to act on furthering their own agendas truly sounds incredibly awesome, honestly maybe a bit to much so. Truly hope you get it to work in the way you envision it.

    1. That is curious. Maybe I just haven't actually coded exp values into most characters. I don't think I actually have yet. I'll review the code tonight and see if that's the case.

That's...an interesting problem. I honestly think I'm going to have to just rip into the dialogue manager overall and fix a lot of the issues. Like the way old dialogue comes up when there's no new dialogue. That was fine at first but it's starting to grate on me, so I'll probably be pulling that out soon and fixing it. Perhaps in doing so I'll fix the repeating text too.

Some of it I know for a fact is almost certainly just sloppy cleaning on my part. The Karen dialogue for instance, is probably just me failing at purging her dialogue in one random instance and so it repeating until something fixes it.

Glad you like the art! I was really worried about updating it, but so far no one seems to hate it, which is good.

And finally, yeah, I'm aware it might be a bit much, but I'm nothing if not ambitious. Having started on it, I can feel how big the task is just by virtue of how lost I am in it, but each individual part doesn't feel too hard. It's just a matter of working out where to start, and slowly painting in more and more stuff to connect it to the other stuff, and on and on. Whatever the case, it's 100% not being finished this update. I'm probably going to do a few more days on it this month, then shelf it to finish my writing, adding in the pictures, and then putting a small dent in some of the final points of functionality I need to add before 0.69. From there it's another month of cleaning, and then on to more content hopefully.
