Shield High 0.612 Release

So. Turns out the problem I needed to fix. I'd already fixed that. I could've released on the 24th. Buuuut I didn't. So instead I added the timetable for you all. So you can see where to go for each class. Anyway, I did some bug fixing for you all, so that issue for low resolution games is fixed. I've made *functional* weekends. They aren't pretty, they need a little more work, but they function. I've also added a bunch of silent characters to just give myself some ground work for later and also see how adding more pictures affects the game size. It's also a small look at how some of the other characters look.

Anyway, download link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cmiywpweb0cp720/Shield%20High%20JS%200.612.zip

Next week will bring no release as I have family coming to visit soon and I wasted half a week with family and I'm just a little too stressed out to work while they're around. I'll keep you all posted on what's happening, and might finally post the unfinished Joyce stuff I was doing. Maybe.

Enjoy.

  1. Hmm my very first Post about this Game, first off i really have to say that i like it quite a lot.^^ The decision to move away from Rag was a huge Step forward, the new fighting makes a lot more fun (for me at the very least) and the Characterstyle is more than satisfying together with the writing.I really like that kind of Game more if there is something for the eye aswell. Had no major Problems with this Release but a few minor things caught my atention: Jessicas Char Portrait seems on 800x600 a little bit squashed and the Battle Text interferes a little bit with the Stats while figthing. The Timetable is a good Idea and fits relatively well in the Layout. All in all good work and thanks for making this great Game, I cant wait for the next release. (Karen is pretty hot in my opinion by the way^^)

    1. Thanks for the feedback, always good to hear from people.

The 800x600 layout is really cramped and I really don't like it honestly. I'll probably go through and just play around with making a new layout for 800x600, since it squishes things too much for my original intentions unfortunately.

  2. Hello, hope you had a good christmass. Just wanted to mention that the 2nd Karen fight doesn't trigger for me (whether I've won or lost the first one).
I get the script that sets up the fight (with the FIGHT! at the end), but the combat screen doesn't pop up. If I leave and come back, get the same intro, but still no combat screen.

    1. Okay that's weird. I don't suppose there's anything in particular you're doing for this to happen?

    2. I know what he means, the same Thing happens to me aswell, but I just assumed the second Fight wasn`t implemented yet. The only cause that i can think of at the moment is that the first Fight doesen`t trigger properly because you get thrown into Battle without having the Intro. This seems to cause the Game to think the Battle never happened or something like that, my guess is that it returns an invalid value that throws the whole thing off. A Point that would support this is that if you go there again the Intro gets displayed without causing anything.

  4. I just found the game on Legend of Krystal after wandering the boards for a while. I love the concept and can certainly see where it used to be a rags game. I did notice a few odd things with the game and the UI tho.

With the game: the picture of Jessica moves down below the game screen when you choose to submit to Karen after your first encounter. I don't know if this is to represent Jessica being shy or simply an accident but if it's because she's shy it seems weird to me (like the character I'm playing is embarrassed to show herself her body). According to your guide the events around her fighting you and Samantha attacking don't seem to occur as quickly as they are implied in the text. They occurred after 3-4 days for me. This also threw me off as the week schedules would be lost as certain events hadn't happened yet. I also noticed that there is still relatively little directions. Even at the start of the game you are simply told that you should talk to the girls. You do so and suddenly you are expected to go talk to someone in a completely different building for no apparent reason. I figured it out after a while but it just got worse after that. If not for the guide you wrote I would have been stuck at the end of the training fight and not given the game a second glance. Again, after I figured it out I really liked the game. It has a lot of potential but it's difficult to follow the story portion. The last thing I noticed was that the weekends are strange. After the first week Monday seems to never occur again -- Don't get me wrong I don't like Monday's as much as the next guy but, might that have something to do with why the events stop occurring (or at least slow to a crawl)? You get to Friday and stay home over the weekend (usually the point in time at which I just defeated Karen ftr) and have to stay home over the weekend and on Monday it gives me the option to go to school and when I get to school it's Tuesday XD (long walk I guess). Also, if you choose to "wander" when asked if you want to wander or train, the guide says you have to talk to Angel and then you get prompted to go to class but when I spoke to Angel she did the same thing all the other characters do when they aren't integral to the current plot-- nothing XD. I then didn't know if I simply missed it or had to skip her and go to class.

As for UI: I couldn't find an option to save, is there one? It'd certainly be nice considering the game would crash after having gone a few weeks without any events. Also, it seems that above it was implied there was a status window over the picture but I cannot find any way to access my stats. Also, maybe some kind of popup description of where each of the directions will take you would be nice (in regards to the controls). Or perhaps access to some form of a map. I realize that after going around the school grounds enough times a mental map is formed but it's confusing as hell at first and it'd still be nice to know where people are talking about when they say stuff like "go to the office" or the "south eastern area of the school grounds".

Other than that my observations have been noted above in other posts XD. Oh, as a final question, you said the combat system is going to be upgraded even more in the future on the forum, but with things like arousal and submission be implemented beyond the point of being just numbers? Like could I tease someone until they gave up the fight and begged for release *evil grin*? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post. I just thought I should comment. I'll be watching this game as much as Humbird0's Pokemon game now XD

    1. Okay so, 0.6+ the guide is useless on account of 0.6-0.7 is basically me moving over to the engine I'm coding myself and 0.7 will be when I'm caught up to the RAGS version. For now it's just the Karen fight and I'm trying to work out weekends. Thanks for spotting the Monday glitch, I'll fix that for next release. It'll take a while to catch up so if you want to experience the "full" game I'd just recommend downloading 0.53. The guide doesn't cover all of it but it should be fairly straight forward.

As for the UI, saves are intended when I start getting to the point where there's enough content to justify them, (also when my knowledge expands to the point where I can work out how to make them). A map is also intended, but making all the little new systems that I'm putting into play function is the first priority.

Finally, the combat system you've played is the upgraded one, and while it's going to get some changes again, it's mostly as advanced as it'll get. I might add movement for larger fights, but that's about it for features. AI upgrades are coming though, as well as special events in the fights.

      Thanks for all your feedback

  5. Sorry that it`s me again, but I gave it another Shot and it seems the second Fight actually does trigger however not on the next Day so @ Tonto try to go through the week a bit more, hopefully that does the trick like in my case. Now that I saw the whole Thing though i must say... damn I am hyped now. XD Love the Changes you made regarding Karen and the coming possibilities that you implied. Wanted to edit that in, but eeehhm is that even possible here? On the matter of the skiping Mondays in my case it starts out as a Monday but changes to Tuesday when i try to interact with Sasha or Kaylee, however it probably changes no matter what you do at the moment.

    1. OH YES! I forgot that the text I'd moved over had said the fight was the next day. I changed it to Friday because the first day in the new version is set to Monday as opposed to Wednesday of the RAGS version. I'll fix the text for that to better inform you of what's going on.
